My healing journey began more than a decade ago in my hometown of Winston-Salem, N.C., as I struggled to overcome a variety of physical problems caused by severe allergies and greatly exacerbated by cigarette smoking.

My health, which had deteriorated during my stressful college years, grew particularly bad after graduating from Wake Forest University in 1993 and becoming a newspaper reporter – a high-stress job that had me smoking like a chimney and scarfing down lots of junk food on the run. Consequently my immune system went so haywire that even switching to the calmer pace of a public-relations career was of limited benefit.

For several years, the best relief I got from serious skin, eye and respiratory disorders came in the form of various steroid drugs, which I could only use sparingly because of their damaging side effects. Gradually I came to realize that the real answers to these problems weren't something that a doctor could ever scribble on a prescription pad.

The Big Picture

Near despair from unsuccessfully battling the effects of my illnesses, I became determined to conquer the causes by using holistic-health strategies, finally kicking the horrible habit of smoking through hypnotherapy.

In 1996, I enrolled in my first Reiki class with Mary Goslen, a wonderful teacher who studied under one of the 22 Reiki Masters trained by Hawayo Takata, the trailblazer who brought this healing art to the West from Japan. In addition to Reiki, Mary taught me about the tremendous healing power of eating living (uncooked) foods and juicing fruits and vegetables.

After moving to Atlanta in 1999 to broaden my horizons, my commitment to healing myself lapsed for awhile in the hubbub of adjusting to a new life. But soon I was shaken back to my senses when my cat Zack required major emergency surgery for a urinary blockage. Nursing him back to health with Reiki and lots of love renewed my desire to heal myself on all levels, leading me to explore a wide variety of healing practices.

Most importantly, I completed my Usui and Karuna Reiki® Master training in early-to mid-2002 at Southeastern Reiki Center. I also became trained in La-Ho-Chi, another powerful energy healing system.

The Right Track

Though healing is an endless process, Reiki and La-Ho-Chi have greatly accelerated the pace of my progress, helping advance me physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Many negative habits, patterns and beliefs about myself have fallen away, and my physical health has improved many times over.

Now 38 years old, I actually feel grateful for all of the health problems I suffered in my twenties, realizing that they were necessary for me to evolve spiritually and discover my life's purpose – helping others to heal.

By late 2002, I felt called to share the amazing gift of Reiki with others, opening my practice in Atlanta where I teach classes and offer healing sessions as a registered Karuna Reiki® Master with the International Center for Reiki Training. My goal is to make this healing technique accessible to lots of people, and the prices and payment options for my services reflect this mission.

I continue to work as a professional writer promoting higher education, and my extensive background in communications has proven invaluable to me as a healer and teacher. Free of ego-driven delusions of grandeur, I take a down-to-earth approach to my healing work, which is all about empowering others.

Helping people find their way along their paths is deeply fulfilling, and I feel so grateful and blessed for the opportunity. I adore animals and am willing to work with them as well.
